The White Springs High School has had several enjoyable and entertaining reunions, and this one was
no different. Several members of the school brought photo albums for their peers to view. These photos no
doubt brought back many happy memories of teachers, school terms, field trips of the past, friends long forgotten,
and those who have passed on and are no longer with us. Unfortunately, it is very likely that the photos and visits
with those not seen on a daily basis brought back some saddening memories as well. It is always important to remember
those things that are not necessarily happy in our lives, as the sad and hard times work just as much as the good to
make us who we are.
Following about an hour of mingling and talking with old friends, there was a program in the auditorium,
with several speakers that had ties with the school. Jerry Ogburn and the White Springs Whatchamacallers sang
a delightful rendition of the "God Bless America." Then there was a recognition period for the Teachers and
Guests, the individual classes, and the Homecoming Committee. Malcolm Greene blessed the health and wellbeing
of all those who attended, and those who were unable to, and blessed the food that was about to follow.
The Telford Hotel graciously allowed the entire reunion to move from the first part of the day at the school
to the later part of the day at their restaurant. A wonderful meal was served to all who attended the reunion.
Such delicacies as salad, fried chicken and catfish, green beans, macaroni and cheese, and cheese grits comprised
our dinner. Of course, no meal would be complete without a dessert, so banana pudding and chocolate cake were our
choices. Considering that this was my first visit to the Telford, I was highly impressed, and look forward to
going back soon.
I was deeply honored to have been a part of this reunion for the White Springs High School. I met many friendly
people and learned a great deal about our county and those that live here, as well as those who have moved on. I hope that the
the committee members keep me in mind when planning future reunions, so that I might attend them as well.
